Scion's 2010 xD is a 5-door hatchback aimed toward young buyers. Its size puts it squarely in the small car category but provides many of the interior appointments of a larger, more expensive vehicle. Scion's simplified ordering means the 2010 xD is offered in only one trim, but can be had with either a standard 5-speed manual or optional 4-speed automatic transmission, as well as an extensive accessory list. All xDs get a 1.8L inline-4 engine that makes 128 horsepower and 125 foot-pounds of torque. Front suspension consists of independent MacPherson struts, while rear suspension is a torsion beam setup. Standard equipment on all trims includes air conditioning, cruise control, tilt steering-wheel with audio controls and power windows, locks and mirrors. Also standard for 2010 is intermittent front wipers, a rear window wiper and 16-inch wheels available in three styles. Also standard on all xDs is a Pioneer audio system with an organic electroluminescent screen, iPod and a subwoofer RCA output. An optional Alpine Premium audio system is available, which adds a 4.3-inch color touch-screen with HD radio technology Standard safety features include front seat-mounted side airbags, front and rear side-curtain bags and anti-lock brakes (ABS). Owners can customize their xDs with a variety of Scion Genuine Accessories packages. Exterior optional factory enhancements include chrome exhaust tips, front and rear bumper ground effects kit, rear spoiler, B-pillar logo appliqué on black Carbon Fiber cloth, rear bumper protector appliqué with xD logo, 16-inch alloy wheels and LED rear taillights. A total of 53 factory accessories, including lowering springs, sport mufflers and five-spoke, 18-inch alloy wheels, can be obtained from Toyota Racing Development (TRD). A navigation system and remote engine start are also available.
